January 25, 1858 – Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” began it’s rise to popularity when it was selected by the daughter of Queen Victoria for her marriage to the Crown Prince of Prussia. The “Wedding March” is one of the best known of the pieces from Mendelssohn’s suite of incidental music (Op. 61) to Shakespeare’s play “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
