September 30, 1982 – “Cheers” began an 11-year run on NBC-TV.


September 28, 1924 – The first around-the-world flight was completed by two U.S. Army planes when they landed in Seattle, WA. The trip took 175 days.

September 27, 1964 – The Beach Boys appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show for the first time. They performed “I Get Around.”
September 26, 1975 – “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” opened in theaters.

September 25, 1981 – Sandra Day O’Connor became the first female justice of the U.S. Supreme Court when she was sworn in as the 102nd justice. She had been nominated the previous July by U.S. President Ronald Reagan.

September 24, 1938 – Don Budge became the first tennis player to win all four of the major titles when he won the U.S. Tennis Open. He had already won the Australian Open, the French Open and the British Open.

September 23, 1952 – The first Pay Television sporting event took place. The Marciano-Walcott fight was seen in 49 theaters in 31 cities.
