“As the years pass, I am coming more and more to understand that it is the common, everyday blessings of our common everyday lives for which we should be particularly grateful. They are the things that fill our lives with comfort and our hearts with gladness — just the pure air to breathe and the strength to breath it; just warmth and shelter and home folks; just plain food that gives us strength; the bright sunshine on a cold day; and a cool breeze when the day is warm.”
Brandi Carlile – “The Eye”
“You can dance in a hurricane, but only if you’re standing in the eye.”
Something fine on a Sunday afternoon. The only time I saw Brandi live was at the Ryman in Nashville, TN. She was just getting her start in the music business and was the intro act for Train. It was on Saturday, April 8, 2006. On the way from Richmond, KY with my good friend, Margaret Baxter, we encountered a tornado near Gallatin, TN, and spent several minutes along the side of the road while hail pummeled my car. A tragic and devastating day for Gallatin. But we made it to the concert and Brandi was amazing. “The Eye” is appropriate for these memories.
A Beautiful Spring Day in Dallas
It’s 81 degrees with beautiful blue skies. I should be walking the dogs right now along White Rock Lake. But try as I may, my dear friend Gretsch won’t let me leave the Lanais without spending a little quality time together. And I do believe Salem, who is catching some shade under the chair, agrees.

Hello WordPress!
A big hello to the WordPress community and the followers of my blog, On Topic! I started my presence here today by migrating all my Tumblr posts, and I’ll continue to design and tidy up over the next few weeks to personalize and make this my own place. So while all this moving-in takes place, feel free to explore the Elysian Waters!
